Plot, Cast, Release Date, and Everything Else We Know

It wouldn’t be the holiday season without a Christmas movie that features a singer. Next in the Netflix holiday movie lineup is Christmas With You, a film following a pop star as she finds inspiration in a small town. Aimee Garcia is Angelina, a singer trying to find her sound again, and Freddie Prinze Jr. is Miguel, a music teacher that helps her along the way.

Netflix confirmed in October that Gabriela Tagliavini directed the film. She’s previously worked with the streamer, directing and writing the screenplay for A Pesar de Todo. She’s also worked on the series Claramente and the movie Cómo Cortar a Tu Patán. Paco Farias (My Big Fat Fabulous Life), Jennifer C. Stetson, German Michael Torres (Truth or Dare), and Michael Varrati (Christmas with a Crown) are credited as writers. Eric Brenner (High Holiday, The Haunting of Sharon Tate) and Kerri Hundley (The Stand In) are executive producers, with Lucas Jarach (First Love, The Amityville Murders) and Torres as producers.

Get ready for a new classic holiday song as we share everything there is to know about Christmas With You.

Christmas With You: The Plot

When pop star Angelina is told she needs to write a Christmas song or be dropped by her label, she tries to find inspiration everywhere in the midst of major career burnout. After watching a cover video by a young girl named Cristina (Deja Monique Cruz) on Instagram, the singer decides to make the girl’s Christmas wish come true and meet the fan. In the trailer, Angelina notes that she needs to connect with her fans at that moment if she’s ever going to be inspired to write a Christmas bop.

When she visits Cristina at her school, a snowstorm forces the pop star to stay for dinner instead of heading back to the big city. Angelina has no hesitation in accepting the invitation, though she may be stumbling into something she didn’t quite expect. Overexcited tías, a grandmother who brings out an entire bottle of alcohol, and a partnership between Angelina and Cristina’s dad, Miguel, brings Christmas cheer to everyone.

Based on the trailer, it looks like Miguel and Angelina will sing the song they collaborated on together at a large event; Cristina’s quinceañera happens, and love birds fly as the magic of Christmas brings two musicians together. It seems like Angelina won’t be the only one inspired to create music, either. Miguel was stuck in his songwriting but will power through with the help of the pop star.

Christmas With You: The Cast

Aimee Garcia is pop star, Angelina. The actress is known for her work in Lucifer and Dexter, though her voice may be more recognizable from Dragons: The Nine Realms or The Addams Family movie from 2019. Freddie Prinze Jr. is Miguel, the music teacher. Audiences will know him from iconic films like I Know What You Did Last Summer and She’s All That and his more recent voice work in Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Everything Else We Know

The film marks Freddie Prinze Jr.’s return to romantic comedies. Before his first leading role in She’s All That, the actor starred alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar in I Know What You Did Last Summer and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. The slashers are very different from the films audiences have come to know him for.

After staring in She’s All That, which recently had a gender-reversed reboot on Netflix, he continued on to other romantic comedies, including Down to You and Summer Catch. He went on to do voice work in a variety of projects, from Shark Bait to Star Wars Rebels. Christmas With You brings him back to what many know him for, but with a fun holiday twist.

It looks like Netflix holiday movies are helping actors make big comebacks this year. In addition to Prinze’s return to romantic comedies, another film in their lineup, Falling for Christmas, features the return of Lindsay Lohan to acting. Who could be next?

While you wait to watch the pop star and music teacher make the next holiday hit, check out a holiday classic that should be on your watch list this year.
